Patrick L. Lombardi wins Red Bull No Paws Down 2018 at KnK Longboard Camp

The KnK Longboard Camp 2018 presented by KebbeK Skateboards has always been a gathering place for freeriders, but an added element of racing was bound to make its mark at the event. The Red Bull No Paws Down challenge is a highlight at the end of week one where racers are competing to win 1000 Euros. The only catch is, they can’t touch the ground with their hand for the full 18 hairpin course.

After a week of practicing on the Bear’s Guts track riders were ready. Last years champion & ROCKET Longboards Dominic Schenk felt that he had already achieved his life goal in winning the Red Bull No Paws Down and was happy to MC the race from the corner 8 with Joey Bidner, Brand manager for KebbeK Skateboards. He was sure that the winner would either be Dave Süess or Patrick L Lombardi.

However, there were wild cards in the mix as well. Oscar Rodriguez from Spain was very nimble but always on the edge while Ian Freire, Alternative Longboards rider Jan Izquierdo and Brandon DesJarlais all had a shot at winning. With Ian Freire making an early exit in the quarters and Oscar Rodriguez losing out in the semi-finals we were down to only Dave Süess, Patrick Lombardi, Brandon Desjarlais and Jan Izquierdo.

Brandon Desjarlais takes us through the finals: I got off the line quickly and was around 20 metres ahead by the first corner. Patrick was reeling me in and passed me right before the second corner. Between corner 3 and 4 I really started to gain on Patrick, but I messed up in corner 4 and by this point knew Patrick would win, he kept a confident lead on me and had grippier wheels. Jan was always behind me pressuring me, I had to play defence to fight for second place. Dave tried to make a move on Jan in corner 5 but washed out and put his puck down. At the end of the day it’s whether you ride grippy wheels and risk losing control or freeride wheels and be consistent. I ended the final with Jan just a metre behind me and Patrick cleanly out front.

The party place at KnK Longboard Camp gradually ramps up throughout the week to an apex of the KebbeK  Wheel of Misfortune on Friday night. Joey Bidner and Maxwell Kaye were your terrible hosts, taping boards to riders and handing out beer bongs with exotic ingredients. A delighted crowd looked on as riders are rewarded for their valiant efforts. Brandon Fanthome ate a whole garlic covered in Tabasco sauce to win a board, describing it as one of the worst experiences of his life.

After such a hectic week of KnK Longboard Camp 2018  Week #1, the crew is taking a break before Week #2. Hay bales are being replaced and the bar is being re-stocked. Thank you to all the riders for joining us for KnK Longboard Camp Week #1 and if you are heading to Week #2 then get excited, it’s going to be awesome.

Dominic Schenk wins the 2017 Red Bull No Paws Down World Championship

With 128 people qualifying for the 2017 Red Bull No Paws Down World Championship on Friday and some of the world’s best freeriders competing, we were sure to have a competitive race on Saturday.

In the semi finals title contenders Brandon DesJarlais and Ian Freire put their paws down leaving Patrick Lombardi and ROCKET longboards team rider Dominic Schenk to fight it out in the final.

Patrick stayed in front all the way until the 17th corner where he messed up his slide and was passed by Dominic Schenk who took home 1000 euros first place money prize.

Patrick took 2nd and Till Heiden and Iacopo Barbieri shared 3rd place on the Red Bull No Paws Down World Championship podium.

One of the best aspects of KebbeK KnK Longboard Camp is the endless runs on the track. Here is how Emily Pross described it this morning:

I have skated so much over the past week, here at KnK, I have blisters at the bottom of my feet.

The hill, featuring 18 hairpins and a 4km length is enough to tire even the best of riders.

To help riders stay refreshed, fresh slices of watermelon awaited on corner 18 and all the KebbeK Skateboards Shuttle Buses featured full air conditioning to cool them down.

To end the day KnK Camp is fortunate to have a beautiful river equipped with a rope swing at the end of the campsite which is visited daily.

The first week of KnK Longboard Camp has also been a hectic week of partying, Tom Boerman summed it up pretty well:

I love KnK because it always has such a relaxed vibe as well as a different party every single night.

Nights under the stars and beside the fire are routine here.

This weeks parties have included the infamous KebbeK Skateboards Wheel of Misfortune with the addition of their new Fun Factory challengesLandyachtz Longboards Dinghy A Day, a ZublimE rap concert and the Slovenian Hillbilly With A Chainsaw band.

The crowd moved to ZublimE’s beats as he dropped his skate themed raps while Hillbilly With A Chainsaw brought a completely different angle to the party that went on until the early hours.

Patrick Lombardi wins Red Bull No Paws Down 2016 World Championship

Patrick Lombardi wins Red Bull No Paws Down 2016 World Championship

After five days of warming up on the Bear’s Guts, the riders were finally ready for Red Bull No Paws Down World Championship which took place on the last day of KebbeK KnK Longboard Camp 2016.

This year’s Week #1 at KebbeK KnK Longboard Camp was blessed with good weather and we ended up by having in total only one full day of rain (two half wet days, Monday and Thursday). The rest of it was sunny and hot with the race day being the hottest.

Everyone had more then enough time to get used to the track and improve their stand-up sliding skills. The organisation crew was running things really smooth and delivered in average around ten runs per day.

Half way through the event it was becoming more and more clear that the competition this year will be harder then last year. Everyone were shredding hard to keep up with the rest but nobody really stressed about the race. Good vibes and fun times with skate buddies were the main focus of every single individual.

All together there were 195 riders participating at this year’s KnK freeride and 117 signed up for the RBNPD race. Some of them later decided not to race for various reasons so in total 72 riders raced to qualify.

After one warmup and three quali runs, 32 riders qualified and raced in the four man heats followed by the freeride runs.

During the seventh run of the day, Emily Pross chased down the racers in Semi-Final and streamed live video to Red Bull Facebook page.

Emily got hurt during the run in the first hairpin, but despite the injury she skated all the way to the finish line. Everyone was amazed by her determination to finish the run. Later during the evening we were all very happy to hear the she’s OK.

Spiders coming!

Around 4:30pm the Consolation and Final heats dropped into the Guts. Both heats were intense and delivered much excitement to Corner 8 a.k.a. “The Root Corner”.

In the Final heat, RBDNP 2015 champion Ian Freire (Brazil) battled with Patrick Lombardi (Italy), Ryka Mohammadian (USA) and Nico Gallmann (Switzerland), but didn’t manage to keep his title. The stakes were high as the money prize for the first place was 1,000 Euros, for the second 500 and for the third place 300 Euros.

2nd Ryka Mohammadian (USA)

4th Nico Gallmann (Switzerland)

The stoke level was off the chart as the young Italian gipsy became a new Red Bull No Paws Down World Champion, repping DB Longboards, Cloud Ride Wheels and of course, his Gispy crew.

After the Final heat, the rest of freeriders gathered around in the finish and carried the champions to the podium. It was epic!

Party time with NCODNC, DJ SEMO and ZUBLIME

As all the other nights, everyone got together at the party place where the champs walked the podium once again followed by a metal concert performed by NCODNC from Slovenia, rap concert by one the riders Emil Birch – ZublimE and of course, Joey Biedner and Sebastian Schneider spun the KebbeK Wheel of Misfortune. As DJ Semo played some wicked tunes, the crowd was getting more and more drunk… What happened next should stay in Osilnica 🙂

Huge shoutout to everyone who helped running the event especialy to Course marshals and the whole KnK organisation crew, Maga and Rob McWhinnie, Ry Swanton, the Red Bull crew and Hotel Kovač staff. Word up!

Special thanks to CK Photography for awesome photos 🙂

Ian Freire’s Eurotour 2015 video recap

Ian Freire, the Red Bull No Paws Down 2015 champ dropped in with his Eurotour 2015 video recap. We had a quick chat so check out the videos and read-through to see what he has to say about it.

At the end of June 2015, me and my teammates and good friends from Face Skate Wheels, Tiago Mohr and Carlos Paixao packed up and travelled overseas to Europe. First stop was Italy where we joined up with our good friend, also a Face Skate team rider, Fillipo Salerni. We stuffed our gear in his awesome van and started our Eurotour. Mission objective – Hit some IDF races and freeride across Europe.

We went to three races, TMI Lillyhammer, Kozakov Challenge and the Verdicchio Race while always freeriding some sick spots between the events. I’m not much of a racer, but my buddies did well. Carlos won Verdicchio Race and was 3rd at Kozakov, Tiago was 6th at Verdicchio and Filippo’s best result was 45th at Kozakov.

We also skated the KnK Longboard Camp. For me it turned out to be the best time of the trip. I was wondering how Slovenia would be like and it turned out to be a super sick and wild place with rivers, thick green forests and massive mountains surrounding the Bear’s Guts.

I ended up winning the Red Bull No Paws Down race and couldn’t be more stoked about it! I was so happy to finish the event like that after so many days of riding!

40 days later, after traveling through 11 countries, we’ve made it back to Italy with the best memories possible and smiles on our faces. Mission accomplished. We can’t wait for 2016 and are already planning our Eurotour for next year. See you soon again everyone!
